Behzad Mahmoudpour
Biography Behzad Mahmoudpour was born in 1959 in a small city near the Caspian sea in Iran. After high school, he left his homeland for Germany following the revolution in 1979. Once in Germany he studied architecture, earning a degree in 1997. Along the way he discovered art, after attending the Cologne Art Fair in 1988. “I had an awakening epiphany - I wanted to devote my life to the arts. From the moment I decided on this path up until now, I never thought to ask myself, why art?,” Mahmoudpour said. He sees his vibrant colorful art as a way to express political experiences, cultural and social aspirations without limitation, he says. Further, Mahmoudpour uses curiosity and lust to combine and transfer different motives and elements of art of different periods of time of history of art. He describes this history as “a treasure of opportunities, which gives us great freedom and the possibility to take advantage of it." His exhibitions include: Köln Kunst 6 Kunsthalle Cologne, 2001; Kunststatiom Kleinsassen Rhön/Fulda, 2005; Künstlerforum Bonn, 2010; and Cologne Paper Art Fair, 2014.
