Clary Estes
Biography Clary Estes was born in 1988 and raised in Central Kentucky. She moved to Washington, DC in the fall of 2011 to pursue a career in photojournalism. After getting her degree from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in 2013, she moved to Nagoya, Japan on the 2-year Ishibashi Zaidan Arts Fellowship so that she could work on a variety of personal photography projects in Japan, China and other areas of Southeast Asia. Her subjects range from rural closed communities, to early childhood education and environmentalism, among others. Estes has found that experiences throughout her life have informed and influenced her work in ways that she had not always realized. Recently, she has been interested in how other people define their cultural identity relative to foreigners they interact with, as well as better understanding her personal identity in a globalized society through her work as she continue to grow both as a journalist and as a photographer.
