Georg Gartz
Biography Georg Gartz was born in Krefeld, Germany and studied Fine Art at the Fachhochschule Cologne. His work focuses on the order and unity of colors and how color surfaces are formed through the constant strokes of a paintbrush. Examining how compression and stratification lend materiality and deep space to images, Gartz illustrates that forms are not concrete, and that the conventional optical invention of the perspective can be rejected in favor of the freedom to compose in space, to form a surface autonomously.Gartz’s sculptural pieces originate from his painting, having grown out of the surface of the canvas, developing a third dimension. Gartz has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows, both in Germany and abroad. They include shows in Germany, Spain, the UK, Serbia, Tunisia and Italy. His has also participated in a variety of projects in Europe and beyond. Among them are the International Art Symposion, Misurata in Libya, the Festival International des Arts Plastiques, Monastir in Tunisia, the Theaterprojekt der Europäischen Akademie, Montepulciano in Italy and the Kunstler workshop in Wales. Gartz lives and works in Cologne. Learn more |
