Judith Ganz
Biography

Judith Ganz was born in Düsseldorf, Germany. She studied history, literature, Arabism and politics in Hannover and Göttingen. After traveling to Arabic countries, Judith decided to pursue training in fine arts at the Braunschweig University of Art under the tutelage of L.v.Monkiewitsch, Roland Dörfler and Ben Willikens. With special concentration in painting and photography, Judith earned her Master Class Diploma in 1991.

As an emerging artist, Judith developed large format paintings on paper. Her overall structures, movement of colorful collages incorporating art history figures, star signs, and technology, combined with abstract painting to create such works. Together with Julia Neuenhausen, the Goethe -Institute, San Francisco State University, and the Braunschweig University of Art (catalog), Judith organized a 1992 exhibition, “On Arrival.” In addition, Judith created several installations, working together with Peter Halves in the Fish Gallery in Braunschweig to create “Plastic Surgery Disaster,” working in Kunstverein Holzminden with J. Neuenhausen to create “Traffic Highlights,” and working in San Francisco to create “I Come See and Buy.” After visiting New York, Judith decided to get deeper artistic inspiration by comparing American positions in art with the traditional European painting, images and thinking. From 1992 to 1993, Judith earned a scholarship from San Francisco State University where she attended lectures offered by Whitney Chadwick and Lynn Hershman. In 1993, Judith returned to Cologne Germany where she developed her new style of paintings.

The large format paintings from Judith Ganz suggest, like a film screen, a world inspired by images of space, life underwater and microbiological subjects. These works of art stimulate novel ideas, reflect forgotten landscapes, and depict images that could very well exist within one’s body. Technological advancements in science and macro-photography in medical topics allow Judith Ganz to create unique images with powerful compositions and colorful questions about what you see.

Since 1995, Judith has been active in Cap Cologne e.V. engaging in studio building in the city’s center. Along with a group of artists, Judith has formed an exhibition hall, curating and organizing many national and international exhibitions (Halle Zehn). She works as a lecturer at the University of Cologne, as well as for various foundations.
