Julia Roppel
Biography

Julia Roppel was born in Bremervörde, Northern Germany. She studied art at the University of Art Braunschweig, Germany, under the tutelage of Professor A.D. Gorella.  She earned her Master Class diploma in 1988, with a special concentration in drawing and painting.

In 1989 she received a grant from the state of Lower Saxony. In subsequent years her work was purchased for public collections, among others in 1990 by the Cultural Office Braunschweig and in 1993 by the Cultural Foundation of the Sparkasse Karlsruhe. During those years, she was also repeatedly involved in exhibitions such as the 1994-95 Young Artist from the region, the Brunswick landscape, in places such as the Museum Peine and Castle Wolfenbüttel. Other exhibition activities, include "heaven & hell,” fine art views, Offenbach/Main, 2000, (group exhibition); “court culture,” Art - Club, Neustadt a.d.W., 2002, (group exhibition); “Chlorophyll,” Gallery Schöning, Frankfurt/Main, 2004, (solo exhibition); “long time no see,” Rooms Gallery, C.P. Schneider, Frankfurt /Main, 2005, ( with Rainer Raczinski – Polaroids); “come home,” Frankfurt, Berlin, Beirut, 2006 (group exhibition); “Frankfurt, Paris, Bremen,“ Gallery Kramer, Bremen, 2008, ( with Ernst Stark); “Venedig Offenbach – Offenbach Brooklyn,” House of History, Offenbach, 2009.

From 2007 to 2011 Roppel taught at the Art Institute of Education at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. In 2012 she received a scholarship from the Heussenstamm Foundation.

Roppel's work is influenced by her birthplace Freisdorf  near Bremerhaven. Her work explores nature and focuses on painting supplemented by drawings (in the summer often outside in the city forest), videos and wall paintings.

Roppel has lived and worked in Frankfurt/Main, Germany since 1994. Currently her studio is located in Atelier Frankfurt in Frankfurt Ostend.
