Ute Bartel
Biography Ute Bartel was born in Halle/Westphalia, Germany and currently lives and works in Cologne, Germany. Ms. Bartel studied sculpture and performance art at the Academy of Fine Arts Muenster, receiving a Master Class Diploma of Fine Arts in 1994. In the 90’s Ms. Bartel started experimenting with creating site -specific pieces. Examining the nature of reality, the artist reduced her sculpture to simple materials and forms and combined them with slide projections. This theme was addressed in a major work in 1994 in the Wewerka Pavilion in Muenster, a 500-square meter art space with glass walls in a natural landscape. Ms. Bartel completed a yearlong residency awarded by the state of Westphalia before doing one in Omaha, Nebraska in 1997. There she used photography to focus on the essence of reality and the validity of current value judgments. Her work currently explores fruit and vegetables, experimenting with the form, structure, and color of the peels and the whole fruits. Through photography, digital and manual picture montage; the objects take on new form and structural connection, expanding into large formats and into three-dimensionality. Ms. Bartel’s work is exhibited throughout Europe and the U.S. She has been a member of the art association CAP Cologne e. V. since 1996. The group of Cologne artists provides artists’ studios and organizes art shows. Learn more |
